Museum of Literature and Art after Yeghishe Charents
The Museum of Literature and Art after Yeghishe Charents has a rich collection of literary historical material, dating back to the 18th century. The literary collections of many writers, poets and playwrights are stored in this museum, including collections of the works by Armenian composers and filmmakers. The number of materials incorporated within the collections in the museum is close to a million, the biggest database of Armenian literature in the world.
There are 520 literary collections at the museum and aside from a diverse collection of handwritten materials there are also the personal belongings of writers, photographs, furniture, clothes, recordings and other objects. The oldest archive kept there is the 18th century (1750) handwritten songbook by poet and troubadour Sayat-Nova.
The museum’s library is rich with more than 60,000 books in Armenian and other languages, as well as over 500 antique books.
