“Nouvelles d`Arménie” informs that Western Armenian and Armenian dialects, as well as Assyrian, Greek, Pontic Greek and other languages are in the list of disappearing languages in Turkey formed by UNESCO. By UNESCO’s report, more than 50 thousand Armenians living in Istanbul and Armenian Vakef village speak in Western Armenian. Armenian is in the list of 18 languages that are under the danger of disappearing in Turkey. UNESCO has mentioned two languages that are disappearing in Armenia: Assyrian and Pontic Greek. Correspondingly eleven languages are under the danger of dying in Georgia and Azerbaijan.

As “Azbarez” informs, the fascinating historical novel “Astrologer of Karabakh” has been translated into English for the first time. It was written in 1834 by the Russian writer Platon Zubov. The passionate love story of the novel is based on historical events taking place in 18th century. This novel was translated into Armenian in 1882 by Raffi. Caucasus was also appealing for the writers, artists and architects. Platon Zubov (1796-1857) was born in a famous Russian family. His literary path began in 1834 and lasted more than two decades. Zubov is the author of 21 big literary works which include poems, songs, novels and anthologies.

Armenia as well took part in Geneva’s International Book Fair that was held for the 27th time on May 1-5 (Salon du livre). The honorary invited country to the fair this time was Mexico. In the fair, held in Palexpo exhibition hall, there usually is a great interest towards Armenian booth. The participation of Armenia in the fair this time was possible thanks to “Topalian” foundation. In the booth of Armenia high quality publications about the Republic of Armenia, Nagorno Karabakh, Julfa, as well as the Armenian Genocide and other topics that are mostly in French were presented. 
To the presentation of newly published books, to the discussions, and lectures held in the Armenian booth, Armenologist Jean Pierra Mahe, artist-historian Alen Navara Navasardyan and journalist Vigen Cheteryan took part.

The press and information department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia informs that Armenia is included in 40 countries that are being presented in the 39th international exhibition of Buenos Aires. Armenia has a separate stand in the exhibition. May 1st was announced Day of the Republic of Armenia in the exhibition. With the support of the Armenian Embassy to Argentina and the Armenian society in Argentina, the Day of the Republic of Armenia was celebrated. It has already become a tradition and this year 1200 people were present during the event which was held in “Horhe Louis Borges” hall. The ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Argentina, Vahagn Melikyan and the Minister of Culture of Argentina Hernan Lombardi have made a welcoming speech. Vahagn Melikyan has underlined that for years, Armenia has being presented with a separate unique and recognizable stand in the exhibition. It is thanks to the Armenian society’s support and participation. The ambassador found it symbolic that “Yerevan World Book Capital 2012” title was handed to Armenia from Argentina. Minister Hernan Lombardi has highlighted in his speech the importance of the book in both cultures and talked about the “comprehensive and unforgettable” visit to Armenia.

The delegation of the Republic of Armenia (the head of the delegation, the acting Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan) left to Bangkok (Kingdom of Thailand) on April 21-24, 2013 to pass the title of “Yerevan World Book Capital 2012” to Bangkok and to take part in the festive events organized on that occasion.
